Electrical/Instrument Engineer

Orion Engineering is looking to fill a position for an Electrical/Instrument Engineer assigned to a client location in the Baton Rouge area. This position should have a minimum of 3 years of industry-related experience. Electrical and Instrumentation field experience, construction experience or project experience is preferred. BSEE is required. This position will assist in developing +/- 30% and +/-10% scopes for Process Safety related projects including PHA action items and LOPA Gap closures. This includes creating drawing packages with redlines to hand over to the estimating group. This position will work with the Process Safety engineer, the Process engineer, the on-site Instrument Engineer, and project teams to progress these scopes to detail design. This position will learn and apply the client standards to meet requirements for field installations and bring forward any discrepancies to the project team to make decisions.

Survey Instrument Person

Operates primarily in industrial environments. Performs land (topographic, planimetric, boundary, flood certificate, etc.) surveying, construction layout/stakeout, and recording of geophysical survey results with GPS and total stations. Processes survey data. Operates as part of a 2- and 3-person survey crew both locally and out of town. Receives scopes and coordinates work activities with party chief.

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Operate total stations, levels, GPS units, and other survey equipment.
  • Maintain complete and accurate field records.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness and success of the survey crew.
  • Interact with co-workers, contractors, and owner’s reps in a positive and professional manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • 5 years’ survey experience as an instrument person or party chief.
  • 2 years’ Civil3D experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in industrial environments.
  • Ability to self-start and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC.
  • Willingness to cross-train on geophysical surveying equipment and practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to stand for long period of time.
  • Must be able to work in the elements, year-round.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be willing to travel overnight and work out of town as required.

Geophysical Surveyor / GPR Technician

Operates primarily in industrial environments. Performs ground penetrating radar and/or radio frequency locates for the purposes of utility scans, void surveys, and structure scans.

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Operate GPR and RF equipment.
  • Generate field sketches.
  • Coordinate with surveyors to ensure complete and accurate collection of discoveries.
  • Maintain complete and accurate field records.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering resources and survey team lead.
  • Interact with contractors and owner’s reps in a positive and professional manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • 5 years experience operating GPR and RF equipment
  • Familiarity with GSSI equipment
  • 5 years experience in industrial environments.
  • Ability to self-start and work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC.
  • Willingness to cross-train on survey equipment and practices.
  • Willingness to cross-train on AutoCAD/Civil3D for development of simple survey and geophysical drawings.

Survey Party Chief

Orion Engineers & Constructors is looking for an HR Generalist.  This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Operate total stations, levels, GPS units, and other survey equipment.
  • Process raw survey data and review in Civil3D.
  • Generate simple survey drawings in Civil3D.
  • Maintain complete and accurate field records.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering resources and survey team lead.
  • Interact with contractors and owner’s reps in a positive and professional manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • 5 years survey experience as an instrument person or party chief.
  • 2 years Civil3D experience.
  • 5 years experience in industrial environments.

HR Generalist

Orion Engineers & Constructors is looking for an HR Generalist.  This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Support human resources functions, including staffing and employment
  • Provide all human resources related administrative and employee relations support to the organization
  • Enforce organization’s HR processes, current employment laws and regulations
  • Manage leave of absence process from initial request through return to work
  • Coordinate the onboarding process by screening, scheduling, and regulating potential new hire interviews as well as conducting all new hire orientations
  • Provide employee relations support to managers and team members including administering employment policies and practices
  • Conduct workplace investigations
  • Make recommendations that effectively promote positive employee relations. 

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • At least 4 years Human Resources Management experience in an organization’s dedicated human resources department.
  • PHR or SPHR Certification preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of federal labor laws, regulations, and compliance (DOL- FLSA, EEOC, FMLA, OSHA; ACA,)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Strong employee relations skills
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and work with highly sensitive data and information
